How it works

The assemblies that decide how the cut comes out.

Blade guide and lubrication in one place

The blade runs through a bearing guide with an adjustable gap, and a metered valve drips water onto the blade right at the cut. Wet cutting keeps the blade cool, flushes sawdust out of the kerf and stops resin sticking to the band wheels - most of the difference between a blade that lasts a weekend and one that lasts a season.

Carriage on sealed bearings

The head travels on sealed ball bearings over the rail instead of sliding on bare steel. Push it along a dusty or damp rail and it still runs in a straight line, which is what keeps the cut square at the far end of a long log.

Head lift you can read off a scale

A chain drive raises the head and a graduated scale on the mast shows exactly where it is. Set the next board thickness, cut, reset, cut again - you end up with a stack of boards that match, instead of a stack you have to re-measure.

Clamps the log, levels on anything

A screw clamp takes up the slack as the log settles, so it stays put through the cut. The rail sits on adjustable feet, so you can set up on grass, gravel or a concrete slab without shimming it level first.
